New Arts Nonprofit Opens Doors July 27 Serving Youth in the Northwest Corner

North Canaan, CT – Canaan Kids Artspace (CKA), a new nonprofit organization based in North Canaan, announced today a Grand Opening Party on Sunday, July 27 between 3-5pm. The event will be held at their first physical storefront location at 27 Railroad St. within the historic Colonial Theatre. A family friendly event, attendees are invited to explore the new space; make fun crafts; have their face painted; enjoy complimentary ice cream; traverse a cardboard maze; take pictures in a silly photo booth with crafted props; and enjoy music and dancing.

Canaan Kids Artspace believes creativity is a fundamental part of being human. They believe art should be accessible to all and created with care for the environment. They focus on making art with children that emphasizes exploration, self-discovery, and the joy of creativity itself, placing value on the act of making rather than the final product.

“I was inspired to create Canaan Kids Artspace because I believe communities need creative spaces. Places where art isn’t just something to look at, but something to make. Places where people of all ages can remember what it feels like to build, to imagine, and to play,” said Breetel Graves, CKA Founder & Executive Director. “As a parent of two young kids in town, I also know how hard it is to be a working parent and navigate childcare. By offering a new affordable after school program and ongoing events, we seek to provide a compelling option for families that makes it easier to live and work in the town we all love.”

Upcoming events, details on the afterschool program, and ways to connect can be found at canaanartspace.org.

Canaan Kids Artspace (CKA) is on a mission to spark creativity, nurture community, and promote environmental stewardship. Through a mix of structured and open-ended activities centered around upcycled materials, they inspire young creators to think sustainably, connect with others, and express themselves joyfully. CKA provides mobile art programming at various locations throughout the Northwest Corner and Berkshires, programs and special events, and an afterschool program for children ages 6-10 at their brick and mortar location in North Canaan, CT.
